A serene cat sits quietly amongst a forest of ferns. Shades of blue, yellow and green compliment the black and white image of the kitty.
"Blue Ferns" is a mixed media collage made up of a linocut cat print, two botanical mono prints, and acrylic embellished colored papers. This is a unique, one-of-a-kind artwork.
The original inspiration for my recent collage work has come from the pile of imperfect linocut prints that I have accumulated over the course of the last 4 years. Parts of them were good, other parts, unacceptable. I knew I wanted to use the good parts somehow, someday. That time is now.
The fern and cotoneaster are a mono prints. This is a new printing process for me. A thin layer of acrylic paint is rolled out on a plate of gelatin, and ferns were placed on top of the wet paint. Paper placed over the top was lightly pressed, and the paper peeled back, revealing the botanical image.
The acrylic embellished papers come from my love of painting. I use various texturing techniques with the paint to create a, "visual texture."
*All materials used for this collage are acid free and archival.
*Size: Art is 10"x10" mounted on a 12"x12"sheet of Stonehenge printing paper with one deckle edge on the bottom.
*Framing Suggestion: I would suggest having an acid free mat cut for the collage and framing it in a 14"x14" or 16"x16" frame, if you like a lot of mat. Acid free mat board will keep the paper from yellowing with age. The mat will keep the collage away from the glass, just in case moisture gets inside the frame. And always, the best way to protect any original art piece is to be sure to not hang it in direct sunlight or close to a bright lamp which will age and fade the artwork.
