I really love this print! This beautiful botanical was taken using three fern leaves on a gelatin printing plate. What I love is the visual texture that was created by the blue paint when it was printed over the green background on the plate. So much texture. This is a unique, one-of-a-kind artwork.

The process of using a gelli or gelatin plate, is also called mono printing. Mono meaning only one print of an image is printed with each inking of the plate. Unlike linocuts, where you print an edition of multiples of the same image, there is only one print with gel printing.

A thin layer of green acrylic paint was rolled out on the plate of gelatin and printed. Then blue paint was rolled out on the plate, ferns leaves placed on top, and the original print was placed on top of the wet blue paint. The paper was lightly pressed, and then peeled back, revealing the botanical image.

*All materials used for this botanical print are acid free and archival.

*Size: This circular image is 8" around, printed on a 12"x12" sheet of Stonehenge printing paper with one deckle edge on the bottom.

*Framing Suggestion: I would suggest having an acid free mat cut for this artwork. Acid free mat board will keep the paper from yellowing with age. The mat will keep the collage away from the glass, just in case moisture gets inside the frame. And always, the best way to protect any original art piece is to be sure to not hang it in direct sunlight or close to a bright lamp which will age and fade the artwork.
