This simple but beautiful print was taken from three fern leaves. It was printed on a gelatin press, and then the background was hand painted shiny gold metallic. I love shiny gold! As you can probably tell from my other prints. This is a unique, one-of-a-kind artwork.

The process of using a gelli or gelatin plate, is also called mono printing. Mono meaning only one print of an image is printed with each inking of the plate. Unlike linocuts, where you print an edition of multiples of the same image, there is only one print with gel printing.

A thin layer of acrylic paint is rolled out on a plate of gelatin, and the hydrangea leaf was placed on top of the wet paint. Paper placed over the top was lightly pressed, and the paper peeled back, revealing the botanical image. The last photo in the series shows how the print looked before the gold paint was added.

*All materials used for this botanical print are acid free and archival.

*Size: This circular image is 8" around, printed on a 12"x12" sheet of Stonehenge printing paper with one deckle edge on the bottom.

*Framing Suggestion: I would suggest having an acid free mat cut for this artwork. Acid free mat board will keep the paper from yellowing with age. The mat will keep the collage away from the glass, just in case moisture gets inside the frame. And always, the best way to protect any original art piece is to be sure to not hang it in direct sunlight or close to a bright lamp which will age and fade the artwork.
