I really love this print! This beautiful botanical was taken with cotoneaster branches on a gelatin printing plate. What I love about this print is the peach toned branches on the white paper. They are so soft in color that they give the piece a peaceful, gentle feel. The cotoneaster print is adhered to a textured green paper, that I painted, that beautifully complements the peach tone. And I love the size, the long dramatic vertical. This is a unique, one-of-a-kind artwork.
The process of using a gelli or gelatin plate, is also called mono printing. Mono meaning only one print of an image is printed with each inking of the plate. Unlike linocuts, where you print an edition of multiples of the same image, there is only one print with gel printing.
A thin layer of acrylic paint was rolled out on a plate of gelatin, and the cotoneaster branches were placed on top of the wet paint. Paper placed over the top was lightly pressed, and the paper peeled back, revealing the botanical image.
*All materials used for this botanical print are acid free and archival.
*Size: The botanical image is 3 3/4"x10". Overall size is 6"x14".
*Framing Suggestion: I would suggest having an acid free mat cut for this artwork. Acid free mat board will keep the paper from yellowing with age. The mat will keep the collage away from the glass, just in case moisture gets inside the frame. And always, the best way to protect any original art piece is to be sure to not hang it in direct sunlight or close to a bright lamp which will age and fade the artwork.
