A serene cat sits quietly while ginkgo leaves fly overhead. Shades of yellow, black and grey compliment the black and white image of the kitty.
"Ginkgo Cat" is a mixed media collage made up of a linocut cat print, acrylic embellished colored papers, and stamped paper. This is a unique, one-of-a-kind artwork.
The original inspiration for my recent collage work has come from the pile of imperfect linocut prints that I have accumulated over the course of the last 4 years. Parts of them were good, other parts, unacceptable. I knew I wanted to use the good parts somehow, someday. That time is now.
The acrylic embellished papers come from my love of painting. I use various texturing techniques with the paint to create a, "visual texture." Gold, iridescent white and silver are layered over the yellows and black strip in this collage. The ginkgo stamp was hand carved by me, and used in the paper on the right.
*All materials used for this collage are acid free and archival.
*Size: Art is 8"x 8"" mounted on a 9 3/4" x 9 7/8"sheet of Stonehenge printing paper with one deckle edge on the bottom.
*Framing Suggestion: I would suggest having an acid free mat cut for the collage. Acid free mat board will keep the paper from yellowing with age. The mat will keep the collage away from the glass, just in case moisture gets inside the frame. And always, the best way to protect any original art piece is to be sure to not hang it in direct sunlight or close to a bright lamp which will age and fade the artwork.
