The name for this collage "Spirit Wings," came from my belief that all beings, human and animal, have a spirit inside them. Call it a soul or a higher self. But I feel we all have a greater self inside us. The papers behind the cat were a happy accident, made while marbling paper. I just loved them!! They looked to me like like wings, so I thought I would use them to depict a spiritual energy, rising above the cat.

"Spirit Wings" is a mixed media collage made up of a linocut cat print, hand marbled paper, acrylic embellished colored papers, and stamped ginkgo leaves. This is a unique, one-of-a-kind artwork.

The original inspiration for my recent collage work has come from the pile of imperfect linocut prints that I have accumulated over the course of the last 4 years. Parts of them were good, other parts, unacceptable. I knew I wanted to use the good parts somehow, someday. That time is now.

The acrylic embellished papers come from my love of painting. I use various texturing techniques with the paint to create a, "visual texture." As I stated above, the "spirit wings" were made from marbling paper. The stamped ginkgo leaves were created by a stamp I carved and printed. And the red columns on both sides have a beautiful shiny metallic silver on them. I love sparkle!

*All materials used for this collage are acid free and archival.

*Size: Art is 10"x10" mounted on a 12"x12"sheet of Stonehenge printing paper with one deckle edge on the bottom.

*Framing Suggestion: I would suggest having an acid free mat cut for the collage and framing it in a 14"x14" or 16"x16" frame, if you like a lot of mat. Acid free mat board will keep the paper from yellowing with age. The mat will keep the collage away from the glass, just in case moisture gets inside the frame. And always, the best way to protect any original art piece is to be sure to not hang it in direct sunlight or close to a bright lamp which will age and fade the artwork.
